Growth and change across the lifespan is a natural developmental process. Sometimes roles, societal norms, limiting beliefs or circumstances interfere with this natural process and personal growth becomes halted and change becomes difficult. Psychology and coaching conversations can assist in identifying the obstacles to this natural growth process. Counselling and coaching supports learning and change and encourages new and expanded ways of thinking, feeling and behaving that allow for more ease, authentic being and purposeful living.
Career coaching is utilised at various stages of professional development and focus can include the desire to: explore new career possibilities; to show up more effectively in the workplace; to embody leadership roles; to feel more engaged or satisfied in a chosen career path; to clarify and achieve professional goals; to create more work/life balance; to manage workplace stress or burnout; or to explore and plan for a career exit strategy.
Increased self awareness of ones needs and values and the identification of helpful action steps towards a satisfying professional trajectory are common outcomes.
In order to work with Mindset effectively one must understand what it is comprised of and how it can be influenced. Mindset has an undeniable impact not only on external outer world results but also on an individuals inner felt experience. It is not a question of whether a person is in a mindset or not but rather what mindset they are embodying and does that mindset serve them and the outcomes they desire? The ability to work with our mindset is a fundamental life skill that directly impacts every experience and every domain of life.
On the field, on stage, or in the boardroom, in any situation where preparation, attitude and execution are important mental performance coaching can be the key to enhancing results. Whether the goal is to feel more confident, to acquire discipline, to execute more consistently, to learn how to reset after setbacks, to overcome limiting beliefs, to manage performance anxiety or to mentally prepare for the vigour's of training and the stress of competition or performance - mental performance training is used by athletes, leaders, performers and anyone who wants to ensure that their state of being /mindset allows them to train, compete, execute and "show up" to the best of their ability.
Many people will reach a point in life when they find themselves grappling with questions about the meaning of life or yearning for deeper understandings of their purpose and connection to something bigger and outside themselves. For some these questions will gently begin to open them up to considering life beyond the material measurable world. And for others this awakening process is acute and may involve the dark night of the soul, an "ego death" and the breakdown of the previous sense of self and world view. Counselling and coaching with a spiritual focus can offer an opportunity to explore self and life at a deeper level and offer support during what can be a paradigm shifting experience.
Transitions can be thought of as internal shifts, while changes reflect external shifts. Throughout the lifespan there are highly predictable periods of transition, and change. Suffering during transition can be heightened by a lack of understanding about the developmental nature and purpose of these internal shifts. And change even when chosen or inevitable requires adaptation involving new ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving. Developing cognitive, emotional and behavioural insights and tools to navigate transitions and change can allow these sometimes very difficult periods in life to be met with greater grace and to be reconciled as catalysts for growth, resilience, and new found meaning.
Tammy is a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists and a Professional Certified Coach with the International Coach Federation. Understanding that each client is unique, Tammy utilizes an eclectic and holistic approach. Designing and living a life that is personally meaningful and aligned with the authentic self may require change at the personal, relational, and/or situational level.
To support a client's desired shifts, therapeutic and coaching approaches focus on the domains of: Mind (cognitions, beliefs, self talk, language, narratives, "programming or old stories); Body (somatic awareness and practices, embodiment, actions,): Emotions (feeling states, mood management, emotional mindfulness). For those open to immaterial teachings, the exploration of higher consciousness and spiritual perspectives and practices can offer added depth to their counselling or coaching process.
The therapeutic relationship is a strong predictor of counselling and coaching outcomes. For this reason Tammy starts the referral process with a complimentary consultation to learn about her clients cares and hopes for service. This conversation allows good working fit to be mutually explored before clients commit to the therapy or coaching process.
In consideration of working fit, areas of special focus in her practice include: Mindset; Personal growth; Authentic self vs. Socialized self; Transitions/Phase of life changes; Individuation; Self awareness, Self worth; Limiting beliefs; Working with the Mind-Body-Emotion connection, Managing stress and anxiety; Behavioural/habit change; Confidence; Sport Psychology and Performance Coaching; Health and well being; Self care; Identity/Ego; Mindfulness, Purpose and meaning; Personal values; Spirituality/Spiritually transformative experiences; Consciousness.
